Title:Iguana Ana
Artist:trini

Iguana Ana」/ trini

When I first saw this particular piece, I was very intrigued by how it was drawn. Just looking at the artist's use of color and touch with the markers, I could feel the artist's joy and affection for the iguana, the subject of the piece. I really like this entry!

ーWhat do you usually focus on when viewing artwork? Also, what kind of entries are you looking forward to seeing at COPIC AWARD 2023?

I tend to be attracted to intricately drawn illustrations. However, when I look at artworks, my focus is not on technical accuracy or precision, but rather on how much of the artist's emotion and passion has been put into the piece. When I come across such a piece, I can feel my own adrenaline rising.
I hope to encounter entries that make my heart beat faster at first glance, and my emotions rise as I look more closely.

ーDo you have any stories or memories regarding Copic?

Eighteen years ago, when my skills were much less developed than they are now, I started a manga series in a weekly magazine. At that time, Copic markers were essential to help me create manga.
I had tried using ink and paint before, but Copic stood out for its ease of use. It was truly a blessing to be able to use Copic markers without having to worry about what kind of paper to use. You can even use cheap copy paper to color with Copic.
Today, I still use the same set of Copic markers I had back then, and I'm amazed that they still work perfectly after all these years. The quality of Copic is really outstanding.

ーPlease share your thoughts as a COPIC AWARD 2023 judge and if you have a message for those considering applying.

This is my first time being a judge. I studied art all by myself, and I still don't know anything about the professional aspects of art. So, I want to look at the entries through my emotions and heart.
I believe what is important in art is heart and passion. To those who are considering entering the AWARD, please forget about things like whether you think your skills are not good enough or if you want to impress the viewers. Create your own artwork just for your own pleasure.
Please dive into your own creativity with all your heart.
To everyone who participates in the COPIC AWARD - I believe the time you spend creating your art will become something more valuable than any award.

ーThank you for your message, Ms.Hoshino!
